You Matter at Uddingston Grammar

Support for Our School Community

The wellbeing of our pupils, parents, carers and staff has always been a priority for us at Uddingston Grammar School and to support you, at this time, we are working in partnership with Jill Trevena and her team at Practical Mindset Ltd.  Jill is a Consultant Occupational Therapist and works with her colleagues to supports young people and their families in the Lanarkshire area, who may be facing difficulties such as:

  • Physical and Mental Health Issues
  • Addiction problems
  • Bereavement
  • Self harm

At Uddingston Grammar, with current restrictions in place, we are committed to delivering a digital support programme for pupils, parents and staff that will offer unity whilst we are separated and growth during a time of uncertainty. Pupils, parents and carers will be able to access these sessions via our ‘Health & Wellbeing’ Google Classroom from Monday 25th May and can contact the school if they are unsure how to gain access to this. They can also revisit any of the sessions at any point throughout the year as they will remain open on this site.

Track your Wellbeing Mindshift App

Pupils are encouraged to complete this work, along with their parents or carers, and complete an online diary to evaluate their mood and stress levels. I would recommend downloading MindShift, a free App designed to help teens and young adults cope with anxiety. Rather than trying to avoid it, this App helps you face anxiety head on. Mindshift also contains relaxation exercises and offers strategies to manage worry, panic and conflict and can be downloaded from the Apple App Store or Google Playstore. However, there are many other suitable wellbeing Apps available to track and support your wellbeing.

Jill will also be available online for questions from both pupils and parents or carers via her Facebook and Twitter accounts. To contact her, or for further information, please visit her website, practicalmindset.co.uk.

What others have said

Practical Mindset have supported a number of school communities and have always received positive feedback such as the following from a pupil...

Asking for help with my anxiety was a big step but Jill was instantly so lovely and easy to talk to. She explained lots of ways to improve my anxious thinking and calm myself from a panic attack. I left a lot more confident about putting them into practice and they work really well.

Jill has shown me through her experience and expertise that it is possible to take control of my anxiety rather than letting it control my life. The impact of Jill’s session has been massive for me and I'm grateful for her support and encouragement.

and from a parent ...

Jill has worked wonderfully with my daughter, providing coping strategies for her anxiety and encouraging positive mindset. She has a very approachable, warm manner and I would highly recommend her to anyone seeking such support. Thank you Jill!

and from a local Lanarkshire Secondary School.

Jill has been working in our school for the last few months and is a welcome member of our team. Pupils and staff look forward to her visits every week and discuss the positive impact after every session. Parents have mentioned that their children have shared their positive experiences too and we look forward to the younger classes engaging in the new year. Believing strongly that positive health and wellbeing has to be at the core of all that we do and the foundation of our general ethos in our school and community,

We are at the beginning of our journey and feel empowered through the strong partnership we have now established with Jill. She has taken the time to really get to know us and our community and always leaves us feeling positive about ourselves and the work we are doing and optimistic about our plans moving forward. I highly recommend Jill to anyone looking to develop mental and emotional wellbeing, balance in life and just a general positive outlook to the world around us.
