Eco Club & Sustainability Activities

Welcome to the Uddingston Grammar School Eco Club and Sustainability Activities webpage.  In August 2016, UGS was awarded Eco-Schools Green Flag for work in the school and surrounding community. You will find below some information about what we do.

Eco Group Activities: Lunchtime every Thursday

The Eco Group meets weekly every Thursday at lunchtime in Room C201. New members are always welcome.

The Eco club activities are varied, and mainly depend on the weather!  We like to plant flowers and vegetables in our raised bed and feed the birds to enhance the biodiversity in our community.  When the weather is grey we will plan our activities, pot up plants or draw posters for our Eco noticeboard, as you will see from the image below:

We organise the annual ‘Mini Earth Day’ in March to highlight the need to look after our environment: this is also a non-uniform / wear it bright day.

Green Flag Award

In October 2018 UGS achieved a renewal of the Eco-Schools green flag award.

This award has been attained by the hard work of our combined pupil, staff and parent Eco group and the wider school commitment to embracing Learning for Sustainability themes.

We would like to thank Uddingston Pride & Brighter Bothwell Community groups and Bothwell Primary schools for their support and for working with us in the community.

Eco Update Reports

Please find below the Eco Update reports that we have put together:

Whole School Sustainability

Moreover the curriculum in every department in UGS contains themes of Learning for Sustainability. For example: Food technology cook potatoes and onions grown in the school grounds, Design and Manufacturing made wishing well planters from recycled wood, PE promotes cycling to school and on World Book Day. books were recycled by pupils. Charities are supported and sports clothing is recycled to Ghana as part of a yearly school excursion.

Community links

We have links with the community, working with Uddingston Pride, Brighter Bothwell and Uddingston Craft Bomb. Both Bothwell and Tannochside Primary schools liaise with UGS in Learning for Sustainability activities.
