Sport and Recreation (Nat 5) 

Course overview

This Skills for Work Course is designed to provide opportunities for pupils to develop, enhance their skills and attitudes ready for employability in the sport and recreation industry. 

This course is split into four sections:  

1. Assisting with Activity sessions

2. Employment Opportunities in the industry

3. Fitness Programming 

4. Daily Centre Duties 

Pupils will develop the skills to assist, plan, deliver and review activity sessions; learn how to carry out necessary emergency procedures; research about career pathways; identify and review key skills and qualities; assist with setting up, dismantling, and checking equipment; plan, deliver and review a training programme.  

In addition, this course helps build skills and qualities needed for later employment such as:  

  • Confidence 
  • Communication skills
  • Teamwork
  • Time keeping and organisation
  • Customer care 
  • Self-Evaluation 

This course is directed at those who have an interest in the sport and recreation industry or have an interest in sport. If you have existing experience of coaching this is beneficial but not required.
